This week it is 100 days until the UEFA EURO 2020 tournament kicks off.

To mark 60 years of UEFA, football is being played in 12 host cities from Glasgow to Baku.

No Barriers 2020 brings the excitement of the tournament into schools and is funded by the Football Association of Ireland in Dublin and the Mayor of London, two of the host cities – an international partnership.

Big Ideas is sharing an inspiring football ‘champion’ story for each of the 12 host cities from Hungarian Holocaust survivor Béla Guttmann to deaf footballer, Eunate Arraiza, who has played for the national team in Spain. Each of the No Barriers champions has overcome a barrier to become a star on the football pitch; men and women with amazing stories from the past and present, inspiring pupils to make a difference in their communities.

Everyone is welcome to sign up and download digital resources with hard copy packs available for schools in London and the Republic of Ireland. Many thanks to ‘No Barriers Champion’ Stephanie Roche who launched the project in person for Ireland last week.

Stephanie said, “I believe that the powerful stories can inspire the next generation of football fans. ‘No Barriers’ introduces students to the 12 UEFA EURO 2020 host cities and provides a wealth of information which I’m sure all students will enjoy learning about.”

Big Ideas is delighted to be running a national project for the Republic of Ireland. Thanks to the Football Association of Ireland, Big Ideas will shortly be issuing an Irish language resource pack for the first time and are looking forward to getting to know schools and communities across the country.
