Big Questions offers secondary school pupils across the UK the opportunity to ask the questions they need answered on the big issues of the day to make sense of the world. Big Questions Ukraine took place in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Devised and delivered in just 5 days and using Big Ideas’ existing network of teachers across the UK, ex-BBC Diplomatic Correspondent and Russia expert Bridget Kendall answered big questions from over 3000 young people in 100+ schools across the UK. The event was endorsed by the Department of Education via Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

“Thanks to the event, our students came away with a better understanding of the crisis.”

Teacher feedback confirmed an urgent need for a timely connection with experts in response to current affairs and for young people to be able to access a trusted and authoritative source to counter misinformation they are exposed to online. 85% of schools cited ‘pupils are concerned about events in Ukraine’ as reason for signing up. Teachers fed back that their students gained the reassurance and empowerment that comes from understanding something better.

“Today’s session was fantastic – pupils really enjoyed and it was so beneficial in terms of providing factual knowledge rather than info they may see on social media.”
