About the Teesside Trailblazers

“If young people in classrooms understand racism better and start to think about how their schools could be more inclusive for everyone, we will have achieved what we set out to do.” George Gitau, Middlesbrough FC Academy player and one of the #TeessideTrailblazers.

The Teesside Trailblazers are a group of boys from Middlesbrough FC Academy U18s team who are using their experience of recognising and tackling racism as a team to inspire other young people how to take on racism in their classrooms, playgrounds and football pitches.

All schools will be invited to share their post-event activities and a few will be invited to a special Teesside Trailblazers Celebration Event at the MFC Training Ground on Wednesday 11 May for outstanding commitment to racial justice.

Teesside Trailblazers has been funded by The National Lottery, DCMS, The Virgin Money Foundation and the #iwill campaign, which supports young people’s access to high quality social action opportunities.
