Meet Guest Speaker Phoebe ‘Concept Engineer’ at Double 11 Games Studio:

I’m Phoebe, concept artist for Video games and Animation currently based in the North East of England at Double Eleven Game Studios. I’ve created artwork for companies like Disney Jr, Netflix and Mojang! Some of you might even recognise the worlds I’ve helped design!
My job is all about world-building and visual storytelling. That means I design the look of characters, environments and objects that appear on screen, even before they are made by 3D artists.
I work with really big teams that involve programmers, game designers and all kinds of artists. We use a mix of creativity and technology to build video games, it’s a creative engineering ecosystem, where all different skill sets are needed to make great games that are fun to play!
When I was younger, I loved drawing and writing my own stories. I also enjoyed lots of subjects at school like English and Science. I went on to study Animation Production at university and that eventually led me into games.
I love working in games because I get to combine all my creative and technical skills to build playable worlds. Most recently I went back to school, as an adult to learn even more. I’ve been studying Game-design and Programming. All these skills help me achieve my dream of making video games!
My biggest goal is to keep learning and trying new things, because you never know where this will lead you in life! Video games were where it led me and it’s somewhere there is a space for all kinds of people with different skills and ideas.
