Creative Activations

We create the space for the public to make active, creative and unique contributions to the national conversation. Our creative activations offer participants an opportunity for meaningful, and often fun, involvement which has a lasting impact for those taking part. Some examples below.
The Unremembered
The Unremembered Project told the overlooked story of the labourers of the First World War – the hands and feet of the army whose deaths were often never commemorated. The Unremembered project invited communities and individuals across the country to creatively remember the people behind the stories with original homemade wreaths. Hundreds of people got involved by running their own events or by participating in Big Ideas-run pop ups. These amazing wreaths were displayed alongside poppy wreaths at the Cenotaph on 11 November 2018. Funded by the Ministry for Housing Communities and Local Government with the National Lottery Fund.
Foundation Stones
A world-first engagement programme, Foundation Stones invites the nation to contribute to a new national memorial to the Holocaust. Inspired by the Jewish tradition of laying a stone on a grave as an act of remembrance, Foundation Stones invites everyone to paint a stone as a commitment to learn from the past and build a future free from discrimination and hatred. Community groups, schools, football clubs, workplaces and many many hundreds of people are painting their stone for the memorial and taking part in this thoughtful and creative commemorative act. Watch this 3 minute film to see Foundation Stones in action. Funded by the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation.
