
My First Love Maths: Square Root Day
Primary schools across the UK are invited to prepare for Square Root Day, the very special mathematical day which only occurs nine times each century.
Join mathematical super star Nira Chamberlain OBE live on Zoom to find out all about it. Take part as he guides your class through a series of fun mathematical challenges designed to inspire, excite and prepare students for the upcoming Square Root Day on May 5th 2025!
During these 50 minute digital events, your class will:
- Discover what square root day is all about
- Take part in fun square root challenges (only pencils and paper required) – linked to the Lower and Upper KS2 Maths Curriculum
- Hear about Nira’s incredible career in maths
- Have the opportunity to ask their questions
- Learn from other young people across the UK as you take part together

Professor Nira Chamberlain OBE is a professional mathematician and is also a Visiting Professor at Loughborough University. With over 30 years’ experience of mathematical modelling, simulation, and developing algorithms that solve complex engineering and commercial problems, Nira was the President of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications from 2020 to 2021 and is currently President of The Mathematical Association. In 2018, Nira was the winner of the Big Math Off title “World’s Most Interesting Mathematician” and is currently the Chair of the Black Heroes of Mathematics Conference. Last year Nira was voted Best of Africa- Excellent mathematician of the year. Finally, in 2022, Nira was awarded an OBE for services to mathematical sciences.
